Through education and advocacy, the Mental Health Awareness Training seeks to reduce the social stigma associated with mental health issues including stress, despair, and anxiety. It’s the only programme of its kind to get both the THS Health & Safety Award and the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Approval.

The state of one’s mind is no laughing matter. Almost two-thirds of the population reports having a mental health problem at some point in their lives. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) estimates that by 2019–20, mental illness (such as stress, depression, or anxiety) would account for more than half of all work-related illness and 51% of all lost workdays.

Reducing the social stigma associated with mental illness is a crucial first step. So many of us neglect emotional and mental health difficulties because we are too ashamed, confused, or terrified to talk about them, yet we don’t think twice about seeking treatment when we have a physical discomfort or problem. The training urges you to treat your mental health like you would a physical illness, just as you would for a loved one.

This training educates the public on mental health issues, demystifies the process of dealing with them, and gives participants actionable strategies for handling their day-to-day health and happiness (for yourself and others). It’s also a great resource for businesses who are working to meet the requirements of the new ISO 45003 standard.

The same can be said about how much healthier, productive, and profitable a company is when its employees are happy. Having a healthy mind benefits both the individual worker and the company as a whole.
